Cookie Policy

Last updated: October 2, 2026

This Cookie Policy explains what cookies AskAiRank uses across askairank.com and the app.askairank.com dashboard, why, and how you can control them.

1. What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. They allow the website to remember information about your visit, such as your login session or preferences. We also use localStorage (a browser storage mechanism) to remember your cookie consent choice so we do not show you the banner on every visit.

2. Essential cookies

These cookies are strictly necessary for the Service to function. You cannot opt out of them without opting out of the Service entirely.

sb-access-token - authentication session token (GoTrue). Session / 1 hour.
sb-refresh-token - refresh token for session renewal. 60 days.
askrank_active_brand - remembers which brand is selected in the dashboard. Session.

These cookies are set by us (first-party) and are httpOnly / Secure where applicable.

Always on: Google Analytics and Ahrefs Web Analytics

On every page of askairank.com we run Google Analytics (measurement ID G-W83N4F4N3Q) from the first page view, whether or not you accept the cookie banner. It sets the _ga and _ga_* cookies (up to 2 years) and sends Google the pages you view, where you came from, and your device, browser and approximate location. We use it to count visits and see which channels bring people to the site. Google processes this data under its own privacy policy. You can opt out with the Google Analytics opt-out add-on or by blocking cookies for askairank.com in your browser.

We also run Ahrefs Web Analytics on every page. It counts page views and referrers without setting cookies.

PostHog (full tracking after consent)

These cookies are only activated after you accept them via the cookie banner. They help us understand how the product is used so we can improve it.

PostHog (ph_*) - page views, feature usage, and session recording, self-hosted on our own EU server. No data is sent to PostHog cloud. 12 months.

Before you choose, and if you reject analytics cookies, we still record a single anonymous page view for each page you visit: which page, where you came from, and any campaign parameters in the link you clicked. That page view carries no cookie, no localStorage entry, and no ID tying it to you or to any other page view, so it cannot build a profile of your visit. Once you accept, PostHog switches to full tracking with a cookie that lets us recognize your browser across visits. We do not use Meta Pixel or any advertising tracking.

Cookie banner

When you first visit AskAiRank, a cookie banner appears at the bottom of the page. You can accept or reject analytics cookies at that point. Your choice is saved in localStorage under the key askrank_cookie_consent.

To change your choice later, clear your browser's localStorage for askairank.com or clear all site data in your browser settings. The banner will reappear on your next visit.

Browser settings

You can also control cookies through your browser settings. Note that blocking all cookies will prevent essential authentication cookies from working, which means you will not be able to log in. Common browser guides:

5. Updates to this policy

If we add new cookie types or change how existing ones work, we will update this page and, where required, show the consent banner again. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the latest revision.
